Day trip to Kandy by train

Have a pleasant one day trip enjoying the hill country scenery by travelling by train from Colombo to Kandy in the intercity train. Preferably travel in the observation saloon to get the best views.

Itinerary
09:00 am - Depart from Colombo on the Intercity train to Kandy
11:30 am - Arrival in Kandy

03:00 pm - Depart from Kandy
05:30 pm - Arrival in Colombo Fort

What to do?
The best part of this trip is the journey. However, while in Kandy, consider the following:

  • Visit the Dalada Maligawa
  • Visit the Peradeniya Gardens
  • Visit Udawattakele forest reserve
  • Enjoy a boat ride on the Kandy lake
  • Shopping at Kandy City Center (KCC)

Where to eat?

Devon and Whitehouse are two of the more well known eateries in Kandy city. KFC too has an outlet here.

Train tickets - Rs. 780 per person (Observation Rs. 500 and Second class reserved Rs. 280)
